My entire career as a nurse has been in obstetrics. I love everything about OB. I currently work for two hospitals, a community hospital outside of Houston, Texas and for a large hospital in the Houston Medical Center. I am a member of my professional organization, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and the American Nurses Association. I am a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I’m currently working on my master’s degree in Nursing Informatics, and hopefully will get my DNP after that. I volunteer and teach prenatal classes to underprivileged mothers once a week, and teach breastfeeding classes to teen moms once a month. One day I will have my own nonprofit organization uniting community women and nurses! My ultimate goal as a nurse is to change a population. . Every morning I go to work and think “I love my job so much, it doesn’t even feel like work…” And every day I leave thinking “Man, I worked hard!” 🙂
I am married to my complete opposite. We have two children, Caris and Lincoln. We struggle to keep our house clean and get dinner on the table in a timely manner, but we love being with each other and try to do loads of fun things when we’re actually off together! My husband likes to stay at home and he has a bad back, so long car rides aren’t for him, but luckily he doesn’t mind me gallivanting all over the place without him. So for all these years it’s been me and my daughter going all over the place, having all kinds of adventures. Her best friend’s name is Gwen, and we try to take her every where we go. And now there is my son, Lincoln. I can’t wait to see what kind of mischief we get into now that we have a boy in the mix!
Where do you volunteer to teach prenatal and breastfeeding classes?

I run a non-profit and we have an ongoing project to women in Kenya. If you ever want to join us and head up a women’s health clinic…let me know, I would love to chat with you about it! There is such a need for it!!! (Fit for the King Ministries International – the Not Without Hope Project)

I’m a new grad RN and I just found your blog! I will be starting my career in L&D Oct. 1st, 2014! I am excited and nervous at the same time. I loved my OB rotation while in school and this is where my heart is. I look forward to reading more of your blog! Thanks so much!
