  1. I am a pediatric nurse and I love this site, so true I would be in the delivery room for possible problems with the infant.

  2. So true except for the lipgloss. But then, not all labor nurses are women. 🙂

  6. To the student nurse who was grossed out by a shaved pubis.. Trust me, you will see much more “gross” things on a patient in a hospital setting than a shaved pubis so maybe you better consider a different profession if a little thing like this grosses you out. Not that long ago EVERY woman who came into have a baby got a complete shave–complete. And guess whose job it was to do that!! And let me reassure moms to be who are reading this I don’t care if you have hair here, there, everywhere or none at all and I have never encountered a fellow nurse in L&D who though any different. Hello to my old friend Robin Roby!

    • As a student nurse, things are all so new. I can reassure you, Sharan, this is not an impediment to me becoming a labor and delivery nurse. When things like this are so new, it takes awhile to adjust. Are you indicating that “gross” things never took time for you to adjust to? I hardly think so. There have been many things I had to get used to in my firsthand, hands-on exposure to the nursing profession. I am hardly alone. My classmates and still laugh about things like that! BUT, I would never indicate my discomfort or shock at seeing some crazy stuff because that would be unprofessional and insensitive.

      • It’s OK tlcat625; as an ‘old’ nurse, I still consider some things ‘gross’; and we still love the owner. Who hasn’t been a little grossed out by a fresh pool of vomit on the bedroom carpet – but you still love the sweet child who spewed it. Right? Own the profession, own the rights to your definition of gross. Shaving or not isn’t one of my quirks. But we all have them of one sort or another. Enjoy your education and soon to be profession, wherever it is. Own it, and continue to be honest. #still making memories.

  10. I am a midwife, I’ve seen vaginas in varying states of hair, wear and… tear and I don’t care.
What I would say however is this…top tip: don’t suture bits of hair into the perineum-brush it out of the way….. My Job is glam.
